  • Terror of the unknown haunts us all. Some readers do not enjoy reading horror stories; others delight in being frightened. The emotional response to reading horror stories - true fright - must be evoked for the tale to be successful.

The matter of horror stories derives from the supernatural and the occult: ghosts, ghouls, witches, vampires, werewolves, monsters, and mummies. We tend to fear the dark forces of nature that are beyond both our understanding and our control.

Horror can be portrayed in many ways. It can be the traditional ghost story or the gory and graphic murder. Whatever type it is, though, the purpose it generally to scare the reader.

Which scares await you at the Norfolk Public Library?
