by Barbara Corcoran. Maxwell Macmillan International, 1993
Barbara Corcoran's novel for young adults presents an over-romanticized view of wolves and fails to emphasize that wolves in the wild might behave a little differently from those raised by humans. The bibliography indicates the author did a fair amount of research before writing, and the book does contain a lot of good information. Wolves certainly aren't the demons that they have been made out to be. But it appears that most of her knowledge of wolves must come from books. In Corcoran's book, man is at fault and the wolf is a blameless victim of human folly. Corcoran's view is the new "politically correct" one. The wolf is mistreated, misunderstood.
