This is a well-written informational picture book for young children about wolves. It tells us that people have been afraid of wolves for centuries, in truth these animals tend to be shy and live peacefully among themselves. The book discusses gray wolves (also called timber wolves), who live in packs that hunt in territories as large as 500 square miles. Pack leaders mate for life, and pack members hunt together, share food, and protect each other. There is also information about the red wolf, which is an endangered animal, and about the fact that all wolves face extinction and need to be protected. The book ends with a short summary of several of the most common myths and stories about wolves and a listing of "wolf facts."
