Budget of the United States Government

    The codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government. It is divided into 50 titles that represent broad areas subject to Federal regulation. Each volume of the CFR is updated once each calendar year and is issued on a quarterly basis.

    Compilation of Presidential Documents
    The Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents and the Daily Compilation of Presidential Documents, which are the official publications of materials released by the White House Press Secretary. The Compilation of Presidential Documents is published by the Office of the Federal Register (OFR), National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

    Congressional Directory
    Presents short biographies of each member of the Senate and House, listed by state or district, and additional data, such as committee memberships, terms of service, administrative assistants and/or secretaries, and room and telephone numbers. It also lists officials of the courts, military establishments, and other Federal departments and agencies, including D.C. government officials, governors of states and territories, foreign diplomats, and members of the press, radio, and television galleries.

    Country Studies / Area Handbooks
    A continuing series of books prepared by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the Department of the Army. Most books in the series deal with a particular foreign country, describing and analyzing its political, economic, social, and national security systems and institutions, and examining the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors.

    County and City Data Books
    A wide variety of demographic, social, and economic variables are presented for Counties, Cities, and States. Based on Data from the CD-ROM versions of the County and City Data Books.

    County Business Patterns

    From the US Census Bureau, this site has employment, payroll, and number of establishments by Standard Industrial Code category broken down by state. Documents are in .pdf format.

    Economic Indicators

    Available from April 1995 forward, this monthly compilation is prepared for the Joint Economic Committee by the Council of Economic Advisors and provides economic information on prices, wages, production, business activity, purchasing power, credit, money and Federal finance.

    Economic Report of the President

    An annual report written by the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. It overviews the nation's economic progress using text and extensive data appendices.

    Federal Digital System (FDsys)
    The Federal Digital System (FDsys) provides free online access to official Federal Government publications. Through its advanced search capabilities you can find documents and publications, or you can browse by collection, Congressional committee, and date. Metadata is available in standard XML formats. Documents and publications can be downloaded in in multiple renditions or file formats.

    Federal Register
    The Federal Register is the official daily publication for Rules, Proposed Rules, and Notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as Executive Orders and other Presidential Documents.

    FedStats
    Maintained by the Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy, this site provides easy access to the full range of statistics and information produced by more than 70 federal agencies. Links under "Regional Statistics" include demographic and economic state and county profiles from the Census Bureau, including STF1A, STF3A, USA Counties General Profile, County Business Patterns Economic Profile, and TIGER maps.

    Guide to Federal Records in the National Archives of the United States
    Comprises the basic records of the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of the Federal Government and consists of millions of documents in paper, film, and electronic format. The documents are preserved in 27 archival repositories and Presidential libraries managed by the National Archives and Records Administration at sites across the nation.

    Stat-USA
    STAT-USA was a paid subscription service that collected and disseminated economic, demographic and other statistical information from hundreds of government agencies. The service was discontinued on September 30, 2010. Today, the information previously provided by STAT-USA is compiled by individual agencies and offered on the agency’s website free of charge.

    Statistical Abstract of the United States
    Authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States.

    Statutes at Large
    The permanent collection of all laws and resolutions enacted during each session of Congress.

    United States Code
    A consolidation and codification of the general and permanent laws. Also search the U.S. Code at Cornell University.

    United States Code of Federal Regulations
    The Code of Federal Regulations contains the text of public regulations issued by the agencies of the Federal government. Proposed regulations and regulations issued so recently they are not yet in the CFR, may be found in the Federal Register.

    United States Government Manual
    Provides comprehensive information on the agencies of the legislative, judicial, and executive branches. It also includes information on quasi-official agencies, international organizations in which the United States participates, and boards, commissions, and committees.

    United States Government Policy and Supporting Positions (The Plum Book)
    Published by the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight. Contains over 9,000 Federal Civil Service leadership and support positions in the Legislative and Executive Branches that may be subject to noncompetitive appointment. These positions include agency heads and their immediate subordinates, policy executives and their advisers, and aides who report to these officials. The Plum Book also includes Schedule C, Senior Foreign Service, and other senior positions. Arranged by government branch and office. A chart provides location, title, name of occupant, pay plan, type of appointment, level, grade or pay, tenure, and expiration.

    United States Reports
    Contains not just opinions of the Supreme Court of the United States, but the full text, from cover through index, of bound volumes 502 et seq., including all of the opinions, orders, and other materials issued for the Court's 1991 Term and subsequent years.
