The Library Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 – October 15, 2010
Norfolk, VA (September 10, 2010) Norfolk Public Library proudly recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15 with a variety of programs on the Latino experience, past and present.
Bring the entire family to celebrate these fun, FREE events that include cooking demonstrations by chefs from Plaza del Sol Restaurant (Ghent), dance demonstrations by the renowned Clave Tumbao Dance Company, concerts by guitarist Robin Domingo and friends, Latin food bonanzas, and more!
The annual observance for National Hispanic Heritage Month began in September 1968. September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
The Library invites you to join people all across the country in saluting the rich culture and traditions of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
Here’s a glimpse at scheduled events. Go online for program updates to www.npl.lib.va.us.
