Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library recognized in Library Design Showcase

Norfolk, VA (April 10, 2009). Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library was recently featured in American Libraries magazine's annual Library Design Showcase issue. 23 new or renovated libraries were featured in the magazine, with 50 more libraries featured in the digital issue. The Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library opened on March 13, 2008. Since then the Pretlow Anchor Branch has circulated over 30,000 books a month, and has registered over 7,000 people for new library cards. The 32,960 square foot Anchor Branch features:

  • A great new book collection
  • A 2,000 square foot teen library and activity center
  • A 45-seat adult reading area
  • Children's library and early learning center which spans 10,000 square feet
  • A state-of-the-art computer center bringing the total to 90+ computers in the entire building
  • 3 group study rooms
  • A vending area with table and chairs
  • A public program and community meeting area featuring 120 seats
  • Expanded operating hours to include more nights and Sundays
  • Ocean View Station Museum office and displays
    • Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library is located at 111 W. Ocean View Avenue.
