Norfolk, VA (April 19, 2008). Join us Saturday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. for the Re-Opening Celebration of the Park Place Branch Library. The celebration will take place in the foyer of the Park Place Multi-Use Center, with refreshments served afterwards in the library. This past winter, the Park Place Branch Library got a facelift, with the help of The Norfolk Foundation and the City of Norfolk. To experience the new library first-hand, patrons and the public will be able to start visiting Park Place Branch Library on Monday, April 21 when the building will re-open and begin its normal hours of operation.
In April 2007, the Park Place Library expansion project was awarded a $99,000 grant from The Norfolk Foundation to pay for twenty-nine computers, study tables & chairs, computer stations and KidZone furnishings. The City of Norfolk's $100,000 contribution to the project was used for construction and renovations costs. The 1,140 square foot expansion created a space for twenty-nine computers, early childhood programming space, and a KidZone. The branch also received new carpet and paint thanks to an allocation of funds from City Council to improve all NPL branches.
