Norfolk Public Library’s Horace C. Downing Branch Library Re-Opens to the Public

Norfolk, VA (July 5, 2005) - Today, Horace C. Downing Branch Library, Norfolk Public Library’s Berkley branch, re-opened to the public. The branch has resumed its normal operating hours, Monday -Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The branch closed last week because HVAC ducts and soffit supports in the ceiling collapsed causing some damage to the collection and closing the building.

A preliminary assessment by Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, which owns the building, showed no structural damage. City officials have determined that the building is now safe for the public to enter.
