The first commercial air service in Norfolk was started in 1926 by the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Air Service, and ran to Washington and Philadelphia. It was discontinued after a few months because of high costs. In 1929, Ben Epstein opened an Air Taxi Service between Norfolk and Richmond from his airfield on Granby Street.
This wooden bridge on Hampton Boulevard spanned the Lafayette River for many years before being replaced by a concrete span in 1935.

Norfolk's Union Station, built between 1911 and 1912, stood at the end of East Main Street and served the Norfolk & Western, Southern, and Virginian Railroads. The building was abandoned in 1962 and demolished in 1963.
