  • Basque Oral History Project.
    Audio interviews with the Basque people in the American West. From the Basque Museum & Cultural Center in Boise, Idaho and the Basque Studies Library at the University of Nevada, Reno, this site provides interviews, text biographies, and photographs, browsable by last name. (Requires Windows Media Player to hear interviews.)

  • Folkstreams.
    The mission of Folkstreams.net is to build a national preserve of documentary films about American folk or roots culture. Produced by independent filmmakers, these hard-to-find films give voice to the arts and experience of diverse American groups. They are streamed on the website together with background materials that highlight the history and aesthetic importance of the traditions and the films.

  • History and Politics Out Loud (HPOL).
    A searchable archive of historically significant audio material. Keyword search or browse by speaker, date, subject or title of the speech. Each file has the option to view a transcript/log, listen to the audio (RealAudio format), or save the file. A brief description of the circumstances surrounding the speech accompanies each file. Speakers include John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Franklin D Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill.

  • H-Oralhist.
    Archive of messages posted to this oral history listserv.

  • In the First Person.
    Provides in-depth indexing of collections of oral history in English from around the world. It also contains pointers to audio and video files and bibliographic records. The index is updated regularly.

  • Journal for MultiMedia History.
    Includes feature articles, teaching and research resources, and reviews of CDs, web sites, film, video, and audio oral histories.

  • Homecoming.
    Attempts to document the social cost to African Americans of the migration from farm communities in the South to the industrial North.(Current version of RealPlayer is required to view videos.)

  • Witness: Voices from the Holocaust.
    From The Journal for MultiMedia History, this site has interviews and video clips from survivors of the Holocaust. (Current version of RealPlayer is required to view videos.)

  • Library of Congress Webcasts.
    Streaming video interviews with famous authors, political figures, performing artists, and more.

  • Mayors of Norfolk, Virginia, 1950-2000.
    Interviews with seven Norfolk's mayors. Includes historical video clips from Norfolk Public Library, Old Dominion University, and WTKR Television. (Requires RealPlayer 8 or higher.)

  • Open Vault: Media Library and Archives.
    A collection of unique and historically important content produced by public television station WGBH for individual and classroom learning.

  • Oral History Association.
    Established in 1966, this association "seeks to bring together all persons interested in oral history as a way of collecting human memories."

  • Oral History of the Public School Principalship.
    An ongoing project designed to interview retired elementary, middle, and high school principals for their views, reminiscences, and accumulated wisdom. Most of the interviewees are from the Southeast (mainly Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, District of Columbia, and West Virginia), with representative materials from Ohio, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. (Streaming audio files require RealPlayer.)
