Twin City Motorcycle Club – Norfolk, VA – 1913 Welcome to Norfolk Public Library’s Historical Images. The images date from the late 19th century to the present and cover the Greater Hampton Roads Metropolitan Region of Virginia (Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, Williamsburg, the Eastern Shore, Isle of Wight County and Surry County), and northeastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks. Please note that the images shown in the gallery are only a portion of those in our collections. With more than 60,000 images in our photographic collections, we have tried to select the best representation for our on-line gallery. We continue to add to the database, so we invite you to check back from time to time if you are looking for a specific image and do not find it initially. Please contact the Sargeant Memorial Collection staff if you have questions or need help looking for a specific image. |

Acknowledgements for Our Digital Image ProjectThe Norfolk Public Library's Digital Image Project could not have started without the generosity of the Dudley Cooper Family. The late Norfolk optometrist's six grandchildren made a substantial gift over a five-year period that enabled the library to purchase hard- and soft-ware to begin the arduous process of digitizing the tens of thousands of images and negatives, postcards, maps and documents in the collection of the Sargeant Memorial Room. The gift honoring Dr. Cooper recognized his many contributions to the quality of life in the City of Norfolk, particularly his rescue of the popular Ocean View Amusement Park and his help in establishing an amusement park for the local African American population at Seaview Beach in the then-segregated community.
