Volunteer Opportunities with Tidewater Literacy Council
  1. Adult Reading Volunteer Tutors---Volunteers must attend a pre-service orientation and training workshop before tutoring. Tutor will teach reading to an adult student on a one-on-one basis. We request that the tutor meet with the student in a public facility (usually a library) once or twice per week for one or two hour sessions. Students and tutor are matched according to compatible schedule and location requests.
  2. Office Volunteer—Volunteer will answer phones, mail book orders, make copies, and provide general help around the office. No special qualifications are needed.
  3. Placement Advisors—Training provided. Volunteers will evaluate the reading ability of potential students. Schedule varies by need.
