Congratulations to the Norfolk Public Library
Volunteer of the Month
October 2009

Roni Porfert

Writing a full-length local parish history book led Roni Porfert to the Sargeant Memorial Room at the Norfolk Public Library, and the good offices of Director Robert Hitching led to her coming back to volunteer there. At the new Seaboard Building, she gives time for cataloguing photos, assisting patrons with genealogy searches, hunting down obituaries on microfilm and anything else that comes along. She marched with other volunteers this past April in the Azalea Festival Parade downtown, too.

Roni is a former newspaper copy editor and designer now working as financial secretary at a Norfolk church. She does freelance writing and editing, sings in her church choir, makes wine, gardens, bakes bread and loves to go to garage sales. Come see her and the good folks at the Sargeant Memorial Room!

The staff of the Sargeant Memorial Room and the Norfolk Public Library appreciates Roni’s dedication to the library volunteer program.

She will also be featured on the NPL Volunteer website and in the NPL Newsletter. “Volunteer of the Month” receives a $10.00 gift card to Barnes and Noble and well as Certificate of Appreciation.
