Being a Norfolk native, Connie’s childhood family time was spent visiting local history sites and museums. Volunteering at the Sargeant Memorial Collection (SMC) has given her a chance to continue learning more about Norfolk's rich history. Says Connie, “The collections stored at the "Sargeant" are amazing. Computers are increasingly being used to preserve records, thereby, increasing storage capability and opportunities for public access.” Connie commends the Sargeant Collection staff on their friendly and enthusiastic spirit. The SMC staff make it easy to learn new techniques and the backgrounds of the many archives, which helps with her favorite volunteer work, doing research. Years ago she volunteered on a team at the MacArthur Memorial Education Department, where a good part of her time was spent researching materials for programs. Coincidentally, another member of that team was Robert Hitchings, now Archivist of the SMC. “Robert is so knowledgeable about local history, and I am delighted to be working with him again.” --Connie Kean Thank YOU Connie for all you do for NPL!
